Description
This 8 Year Old single cask comes from Hampden under the H marque, one of the estate's higher-ester recipes, selected by Rest & Be Thankful for its Special Cask Series. Hampden in Trelawny distils entirely on double-retort pot stills and is the reference for explosive Jamaican funk, here distilled from molasses in 2016 and matured in ex-bourbon before bottling at a hefty cask strength.
The nose is loud with ester, tropical fruit, banana and nail polish, the palate brings grilled pineapple, banana and more tropical fruit, and the finish runs warm with a sweet-fruit-and-wood close over a mineral edge. Bottled at 64.5% and unsweetened, this pushes the classic H profile harder and hotter, best taken slowly with a few drops of water. It is a serious funk-forward pour for drinkers who actively want high-ester Hampden at full power.
