Rest and Be Thankful bottled this Clarendon as a Pure Single Jamaican Rum, the MMW marque, distilled in 1998 and aged 24 years in ex-bourbon from a single cask at 52.4%. The MMW mark sits in Wedderburn-to-medium ester territory, fuller and fruitier than Clarendon's lightest stock but well short of the heaviest funk.
Distilled on the double-retort pot still from molasses, it rewards attention with creamy marzipan, honeyed sweetness and butterscotch on the nose, then citrusy tropical fruit, baking spice and apricot across an oily, dry palate. Long continental-style ageing has rounded the wood without flattening the fruit, and the finish runs spicy and roasted.
