A 22 year old single cask Clarendon carrying the MPG mark from 1999, bright with pineapple, peach and mango over herbal, peppery oak, bottled by Rest and Be Thankful at cask strength 58.9% with no added sugar.
Description
Rest and Be Thankful, a Swiss independent, selected this single cask Clarendon distilled in 1999 and bottled at 22 years. The MPG marque points to the pot still side of Clarendon, the island's workhorse distillery, and this expression sits in the bright, fruit-and-spice register rather than the heaviest funk, offered unsweetened at a robust 58.9%.
The aroma bursts with pineapple, peach, citrus and mango, the palate keeps that citrus and pineapple lift alongside a herbal note and caramelised sweetness, and the finish turns herbal and peppery with barrel and roasted depth. Ex-bourbon maturation, much of it under tropical heat, frames the fruit with firm oak and toasty spice while a restrained sweetness keeps it balanced. This is archetypal aged Jamaican pot still, fruit esters, toasty wood and tart spice at full strength, a serious single cask for drinkers who want the Clarendon signature with plenty of age and proof behind it. Water opens the herbal side further.
