Rest & Be Thankful Clarendon MMW 2000 is a single cask of pot-still Clarendon, the workhorse Jamaican distillery whose pot marks can be strikingly funky, bottled at a hefty 21 years and full cask strength. MMW is one of Clarendon's pot-still marques, and at this age and proof the rum is expressive and powerful, with delicate citrus and a gasoline-like ester lift on the nose.
Distilled from molasses on pot stills and matured in ex-bourbon oak, it shows pear, allspice and a buttery sweetness on a spicy, full-bodied palate, the strength hitting every receptor. The finish runs long and oily, with coffee, prunes and wood. Bottled unsweetened at 66.4%, this is an intense, aromatic and envelope-filling Clarendon, the kind of long-aged single cask that rewards a drop of water and an unhurried glass.
