Resalte Expresión 2020

Resalte Expresión is a Ribera del Duero red from Bodegas Resalte de Peñafiel, made entirely from Tempranillo, the variety native to the area. The winery, founded in 2000, works 80 hectares of vineyard spread across different aspects, altitudes and soil types, and blends from those varied plots to build a wine with depth and complexity. Ribera del Duero lies high on the Castilian plateau, where strong daytime sun ripens the thick-skinned Tempranillo while cold nights and a wide diurnal range preserve acidity, colour and aromatic intensity, the foundation of the region's bold style. The wine is aged eighteen months in oak, where gradual oxygen exchange polishes the tannins and layers in vanilla, spice and a cocoa-edged richness around the concentrated fruit. The colour is a deep, dark ruby. The nose shows ripe blackberry and plum, black cherry, dark chocolate, vanilla and tobacco. The palate is powerful and modern in style, full bodied, with firm ripe tannins, fresh acidity and a long, oak-spiced finish. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees, decanted well ahead. It suits grilled and roast red meats.
