A Grenadian rum from Westerhall Estate, distilled in 1996 on a column still, aged twelve years and finished by Renegade in Chateau Margaux wine casks, bottled at a natural 46%.
Description
This Renegade bottling draws on column-still molasses rum from Westerhall Estate in Grenada, distilled in 1996 and aged twelve years before an unusual finish in casks that once held Chateau Margaux. Renegade made its name pairing Caribbean rum with notable wine-cask finishes, and a first-growth Bordeaux cask is about as distinctive as that approach gets.
The base is a lighter, column-driven Grenadian spirit, so the wine cask plays a leading role. Expect the warm vanilla and oak of long ageing lifted by darker fruit, berry and a faint tannic edge from the Margaux wood. At 46% and unsweetened in the independent style, it reads as a characterful, wine-influenced sipper.
