Renegade Rhum Blanc Pre-Cask Old Bacolet

Renegade Rhum Blanc Pre-Cask Old Bacolet is a white cane juice rum from the Renegade distillery in Grenada, part of its terroir focused programme exploring single estate sugarcane. Pre cask means it is bottled unaged at 50% to show the raw spirit, and the result lands somewhere between Haitian clairin and Martinique agricole.

Made from fresh cane juice rather than molasses, it carries the bright, savoury intensity of that base. The nose is fermented and vegetal with vinegar and grass, the palate metallic, salty, fresh and dry with olive brine and a mineral edge, and the finish runs to hay, olive and a clean dryness. It is a touch tamer on the palate than the wildest clairins yet keeps that funky, garage character on the nose. Unsweetened and vivid, it is a fine side step for anyone who loves fresh cane juice rum, excellent neat in small pours and a standout in a daiquiri.
