Renegade Pre-Cask Nursery (Upper La Calome) 2022

Renegade distils on Grenada, one of the newer terroirs drawing rum drinkers in, and this Pre-Cask Nursery white comes from cane grown at Upper La Calome. It is pressed from fresh sugarcane juice and run through a pot still, then bottled unaged and unsweetened at 50%, so everything you taste is cane and fermentation rather than oak or additives.

Expect a vivid, vegetal blanc: fresh sugarcane, grass and dried fruit on the nose, a green, estery palate, and a finish of grass, lemon peel and brine with a medicinal edge. It is a divisive, characterful style if you came looking for soft and sweet, but for a grassy white in the agricole mould it delivers clean cane snap and works best in a Daiquiri or other bright, citrus-led drinks.
