An austere young single-farm agricole from Renegade on Grenada, distilled from fresh cane juice and aged briefly in ex-bourbon oak, leaning vegetal and green with chamomile, dried fruit and a musty, herbaceous finish at 46%.
Description
Renegade is Grenada's ambitious cane-juice distillery, working terroir-first with bottlings tied to individual farms and plots, and this Lake Antoine cuvee comes from a single source of cane. Bottled at 46% after a couple of years in barrel, it is young, unsweetened and clearly built to put cane and place ahead of polish.
Distilled from fresh-pressed sugar-cane juice and rested in ex-bourbon oak, it stays firmly on the green, vegetal side of agricole. The nose offers chamomile, vegetal notes, light wood and a touch of vanilla, while the palate is light and a little bitter with dried fruit and wood. The finish runs musty, green and herbaceous with that agricole signature returning. This is austere, funky, sugarcane-led rum that still wears its youth openly, one for adventurous drinkers drawn to raw cane character rather than easy sweetness.
