A peated-whisky-finished Dominican ron at 40%, light-bodied with gentle peat smoke, caramel, dried fruit and licorice over a woody, lightly spiced finish, an easy crossover bottle for whisky-curious drinkers that keeps the smoke restrained.
Description
Relicario Peated Finish is a Dominican ron given a whisky-cask finish, a molasses spirit distilled on a column still and then rested in peated whisky wood, a genuinely uncommon move in the rum world. The base sits in the soft Spanish style, and the bottling lands at 40% with a maturation around ten and a half years.
The peat shows on the nose as wood, peat, smoke and dried fruit, with a palate of peat, wood, roasted notes and licorice running into a woody, lightly spiced and faintly spirity finish. In practice the smoke is gentle rather than assertive, and the body stays light, so it reads as a curiosity that bridges mild peated whisky and softer Dominican rum rather than a heavyweight on either side. For whisky-curious rum drinkers it makes an easy crossover pour, interesting for its rarity even if it leans more toward subtlety than depth.
