ReimonenQ Rhum Ambré

ReimonenQ is a Guadeloupe agricole distillery founded by two Finnish brothers, working from fresh-pressed sugar-cane juice. This Ambre carries about a year in oak, an ambre style bottled at 40% under the Guadeloupe IGP rather than the Martinique AOC, a gentle, lightly aged take on the house cane juice.

Unusually for an agricole, the short rest leaves it notably round and mellow rather than grassy and sharp. The nose is soft, fruity and spicy with strawberry, and the palate turns soft and sweet of character with a tarry, licorice edge, before a finish of strawberry, cherry and licorice. It reads more approachable and easygoing than a typical young agricole, the oak smoothing the cane into something fruit-led and supple. A pleasant, undemanding sipper or a softer base for a Ti Punch, it suits drinkers who find raw blancs too fierce.
