Description
Recanati is a winery in Upper Galilee, in the north of Israel, founded by Lenny Recanati in 2000 to make kosher-certified wine that reflects the local terroir. Yasmin Red is a young blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah drawn from sun-drenched Mediterranean vineyards. The Galilee climate is warm and dry with cooler nights at altitude, which ripens the black grapes fully while the diurnal swing keeps freshness and acidity in the fruit. The blend follows the Bordeaux model with Syrah added for pepper and depth, Cabernet giving structure and cassis, Merlot rounding the middle. The wine is made for early drinking, with limited ageing so the fruit stays bright and the tannins soft. The colour is a deep red. The nose shows red berries, plum and cherry over black pepper and dried Mediterranean herbs. The palate is medium bodied and fresh, with ripe fruit, moderate rounded tannin, a savoury herbal note and an earthy, lightly tobacco finish. Serve at 16 to 17 degrees. It suits grilled meats, roast poultry and tomato-based dishes.
