Recanati blends Colombard and Sauvignon Blanc for this kosher white from Galilee in northern Israel. Bottled young and unoaked, it is crisp and citrus driven, with green apple, lemon and a fresh herbal edge.
Description
Recanati Jonathan White is a kosher white from the Recanati winery in the Galilee, in the cooler north of Israel. Founded in 2000 by Lenny Recanati and Uri Shaked, the estate works with both local and international grapes, and this wine blends Colombard, which brings freshness and citrus, with Sauvignon Blanc, which adds aromatic lift and a green herbal streak. Galilee's higher ground and cool nights are what allow these varieties to keep their acidity in a warm country, giving the wine its crisp, fresh backbone. It is made in a young, unoaked style, fermented cool to protect the primary fruit, and produced under Jewish dietary regulations. The colour is pale lemon. The nose is bright and clean, with green apple and lemon from the Colombard alongside elderflower and a subtle grassy note from the Sauvignon Blanc. The palate is dry and refreshing, the citrus fruit framed by lively acidity and a clean finish. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees. It is an easy match for white fish, shellfish and fresh salads.
