Description
Rebels de Batea Blanc comes from 7 Magnífics in D.O. Terra Alta, the warm, high inland corner of southern Catalonia that is the heartland of Garnacha Blanca. This single varietal white is made from old vines planted more than twenty years ago, and the winemaking is deliberately restrained: the time in barrel is kept short so the oak does not cover the character the soil and the grape bring. Terra Alta sits at altitude on chalky, stony soils, and its dry Mediterranean climate ripens Garnacha Blanca to a full, textured white while the elevation and cool nights preserve freshness. The brief barrel contact adds a little texture and a slow oxygen exchange without heavy wood flavour, keeping the fruit forward. The wine is pale gold. The nose shows white peach and pear with a dried herb lift and a hint of white flowers. The palate is dry and rounded, with the weight typical of the grape balanced by a fresh, citrus acidity and a clean, faintly saline finish. This is a Mediterranean white to drink young. Serve chilled at 9 to 11 degrees.
