Rebeldes Blanco blends Garnacha Blanca and Macabeo from DO Montsant. Unoaked and made for freshness, it is pale with green tints and shows apple, pear and a light herbal, citrus lift over a crisp finish.
Description
Rebeldes is the work of two sommeliers, Javier Bueno and Josep Serra, who set out to make an approachable social wine, and this white blends Garnacha Blanca with Macabeo from DO Montsant in Catalonia. Montsant rings the higher Priorat, and its mix of clay, limestone and licorella slate over a warm Mediterranean climate tempered by altitude gives whites that combine ripeness with acidity. Garnacha Blanca brings body and a subtle herbal, aniseed note, while Macabeo adds freshness and delicate white flowers. The grapes are handled carefully and the wine is made without oak, kept clean and fruit driven so it drinks young and bright. The colour is pale yellow with greenish highlights. The nose leads with apple and pear, complemented by white blossom, fennel and a citrus edge. The palate is dry, light to medium bodied and crisp, the orchard fruit finishing on a fresh, faintly mineral note. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees. It makes a clean aperitif and suits grilled white fish, shellfish, green salads and fresh goat cheese, an easy all rounder for the table.
