Bodega Ramón do Casar makes this Ribeiro white from Treixadura grown on granite soils by the river Miño in Ourense. Vinified young and unoaked, it stays bright and mineral, showing green apple, pear and white flowers over a citrus lift.
Description
Bodega Ramón do Casar sits in Prado, Ourense, in the D.O. Ribeiro, a family project built up by the González Sabucedo brothers on eight hectares of their own vineyards along the banks of the river Miño. The vines were planted in 2000 with local varieties on granitic soils, whose free-draining, mineral character gives Galician whites their firm acidity and stony cut. This is a single-variety Treixadura, the grape most associated with quality Ribeiro. It is made young and without oak, fermented cool in tank to keep the fruit and floral aromatics clean and to hold the natural acidity that the Atlantic-influenced climate and granite soils encourage. The result is a bright pale yellow with greenish glints. The nose shows green apple and pear, white flowers and a clear citrus lift. The palate is fresh and dry, medium bodied and mineral, closing clean and lightly saline. This is a wine to drink in its youth for its energy and precision. Serve at 8 to 10 degrees in a white wine glass. It suits shellfish and grilled white fish.
