Ramón Bilbao Edición Limitada 2022

Ramon Bilbao Edicion Limitada 2022 is a Tempranillo from Bodegas Ramon Bilbao, a house founded in Haro in 1924 in one of Rioja Alta's most favoured corners for vine growing. The estate sits on the outskirts of Haro, where a moderately continental climate brings warm days and cool nights, a diurnal swing that holds acidity and ripens the Tempranillo slowly while preserving freshness. The wine spends fifteen months in French and American oak followed by ten months in bottle. American oak lends the classic Rioja signature of vanilla and coconut, while the French barrels add a tighter, more savoury spice; the slow oxygen exchange through the wood softens the tannins and binds the fruit to the wood. The result is medium to full bodied, with red plum, ripe cherry and red berries on the nose lifted by clove and vanilla, and a palate carrying tobacco and a fine leathery edge over polished tannin. The finish is long and gently spiced. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees, decanting an hour ahead, alongside roast lamb or grilled red meat.
