A port cask finished rum bottled by 1423 under the Rammstein banner at 46%, dark and smoky with wine-soaked red fruit, tar and burnt rubber over orange and toasted oak, a heavy, characterful young rum with a clear high-ester Trinidad accent.
Description
This is the sixth Rammstein limited edition, a molasses rum from pot and column stills selected and finished in port wood by the Danish house 1423, makers of the transparent S.B.S range. Bottled at 46%, it is young, given only around eleven months of wood, but the port finish and the choice of spirit give it real heft and a dark, brooding profile.
The port influence shows in a sweet, wine-soaked nose layered with smoke, heavy red fruit and a tarry, burnt-rubber edge that points straight at a Trinidad-style component. The palate brings orange, toasted oak and smoke before a syrupy, spicy finish laced with tar. It is a bold, heavy rum with waxy honeyed fruit and that signature funky, tyre-like depth, far from a delicate pour. For drinkers who enjoy smoky, tar-driven rum with a generous wine finish, it makes a striking and characterful neat sipper.
