Description
Ramilo makes Nativas Branco near Colares, on the sandy coast between Lisbon and the Atlantic in Portugal. The estate farms biodynamically. This white blends Arinto, Malvasia and Vital, three native grapes, grown on the pure sand soils for which Colares is known, where ungrafted vines survive the Atlantic winds and salt air. That maritime setting and the sand give the wine a saline, mineral character and firm acidity. Made in a fresh style with no oak, it keeps the fruit clear and direct. It pours a pale, bright yellow and shows lemon, green apple, white flowers and a distinct salty, stony note that reflects the sea air. The palate is crisp and taut, with citrus and orchard fruit carried by sharp acidity into a dry, saline finish. This is a coastal white built for freshness and the table. Serve it well chilled, at 8 to 10 degrees, in a standard glass.
