Description
Torelló is a long-established family estate in Catalonia, here working with Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon farmed organically. The Mediterranean climate of the region brings warm, dry summers that ripen both grapes fully, while inland elevation and cooler nights hold on to freshness and aromatic lift. Merlot provides the soft, plummy flesh and rounded texture, and Cabernet Sauvignon adds blackcurrant, structure and a savoury, leafy edge. The wine is aged twelve months in French oak barrels, where slow oxygen exchange through the staves and malolactic conversion soften the tannins and integrate spice and vanilla, then rested a further two years in bottle, which knits the components together and develops more savoury, mature character before release. The colour is deep ruby. The nose shows ripe plum, red berries and cherry, with cedar, tobacco and a touch of earth from the bottle age. The palate is medium to full bodied, smooth and balanced, with fine tannins, fresh acidity and a clean finish. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees. It is an easy match for roast and grilled meats and hard cheeses.
