Raimat farms Cabernet Sauvignon with Syrah organically at its Costers del Segre estate in Catalonia. Twelve months in American oak give a structured red of blackcurrant, plum and a minty, peppery lift with vanilla and spice.
Description
Raimat Molí is a structured red from D.O. Costers del Segre in inland Catalonia, led by Cabernet Sauvignon with Syrah, farmed organically on the Raimat estate. The continental climate here is hot and dry by day with cool nights, and that wide diurnal range ripens the thick-skinned Cabernet fully while preserving the acidity and the blackcurrant and herb character the variety is known for, with Syrah adding dark fruit and pepper. Integrated, organic farming keeps the vineyard in balance. The wine ferments on the skins to extract colour and tannin, then ages 12 months in American oak, whose wider grain and sweet aromatics give vanilla, coconut and a dark chocolate note while the slow oxygen exchange through the staves rounds the firm tannins. It pours a deep ruby and shows blackcurrant, plum and red currant with a minty, peppery lift and vanilla and spice from the wood. The palate is full and structured, the tannins ripe and the finish long and savoury. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees, decanted, with grilled or roast red meat.
