Raimat El Polvorí is an organic, vegan vermouth from the Raventós family estate beside Raimat Castle in Lleida, Catalonia. An amber vermut shading to brick red, it carries subtle wood and spice over the herbs and bittering wormwood of the style.
Description
Raimat El Polvorí Vermut comes from the Raimat estate in Lleida, Catalonia, owned by the Raventós family since 1914 and set on land made fertile by the Aragon and Catalonia canal completed in 1910. That irrigation turned a dry, stony plain into a working vineyard estate, and the continental climate of inland Lleida, with hot days and cool nights, ripens the grapes while holding their acidity. The vermouth is certified organic and vegan, made from estate fruit, then fortified, sweetened and infused with herbs, roots and spices, with wormwood supplying the bitter note of the style. A period in wood adds the subtle oak and vanilla seen in the wine. The colour is amber shading towards brick red, clear and bright. The nose shows subtle wood and spice woven through dried herbs. The palate is rounded and lightly sweet, with clove, cinnamon and bitter orange carried to a clean bitter finish. At 15.5 percent it sits at classic aperitif strength. Serve chilled over ice with an orange slice and a green olive, before a meal or with cured meats and cheese.
