Description
Raimat Abadia is a red wine from D.O. Costers del Segre, made by Raimat in Lleida, the second project of the Codorníu group owned by the Raventós family. The estate dates to 1918 and its concrete cellar, designed by a disciple of Gaudí, is known as the cathedral of wine. The wine blends Cabernet Sauvignon and Tempranillo, and is certified organic. Costers del Segre lies inland in western Catalonia, with a continental climate of hot days and cool nights that helps the grapes ripen while keeping acidity fresh, reflected in the moderate thirteen percent alcohol. Vineyards are farmed sustainably to reduce intervention. The wine ages for ten months across different barrel types, a shorter, gentler oak regime that rounds the tannins and adds a touch of vanilla and spice while keeping the fruit fresh and to the fore. It shows a bright ruby colour and aromas of red and black fruit, cherry and plum over light spice. The palate is medium-bodied and approachable, with soft tannins, juicy fruit and a clean savoury finish. Serve at 15 to 17 degrees; it is a flexible everyday red for roast poultry, pork and grilled meat.
