Description

An Isle of Raasay distillery bottling from the Limited Release - Marsala Cask, a 4 year old release, distilled in 2021 and bottled at 50.7%. Just 12300 bottles were filled. Raasay is a young Hebridean distillery, the first ever to legally distil on the Isle of Raasay. The house makes both peated and unpeated spirit, married across six signature casks.

Distilled in Italian built copper stills, a lantern wash still and a swan neck spirit still, the make carried a blackberry fruit from its long fermentation. A Marsala cask shaped it, a nod to the distillery's Italian leanings. At a youthful age the new make character shines, lifted by first fill wood. Maturation on the island, beside the sea, lends a clean coastal freshness. Every bottle is natural in colour and free of chill filtration. The Na Sia single casks let drinkers taste each thread of the six cask recipe. A population of around 160 makes Raasay one of Scotland's smallest distilling islands.

At a full 50.7% it is deep and lively. The Marsala lends raisin, brown sugar and a nutty warmth. It is lively and deep, the cask and fruit well matched. Dark fruit and spice see out a long finish. This is a characterful young malt made wholly on its island.
