Description
This official Isle of Raasay single malt and bottled at 46.4%. Raasay is a modern island distillery, the first legal one on this small Hebridean isle off the coast of Skye. Raasay released its first single malt in 2020, three years after the first spirit ran.
Distilled on water from the island well in Italian built copper stills, the make carried a blackberry fruit from its long fermentation. Maturation in a Bordeaux cask brought dark berry fruit and a soft tannin. Carrying no age, it leans on vivid fruit and active cask character. The spirit is bottled at natural colour and without chill filtration, true to the house. Every bottle is natural in colour and free of chill filtration. The Na Sia single casks let drinkers taste each thread of the six cask recipe. A population of around 160 makes Raasay one of Scotland's smallest distilling islands. First fill and virgin casks let this young spirit gain depth quickly.
At 46.4% it is soft and fruit forward. The wine cask adds blackberry, plum and a red berry lift with a clean coastal lift behind. A bramble fruit and a warm spice run through. Berry fruit and vanilla draw out the close. This is the new wave of Hebridean whisky in a glass.
