Description
Quinta Milú is a small family winery started by winemaker Germán R. Blanco in La Aguilera, Burgos, farming its own vineyards organically and working with microvinification. La Cometa is a single-variety Tempranillo, known locally as Tinto Fino, from vines averaging around 70 years old. Ribera del Duero sits on a high plateau where cold nights and hot days give a wide diurnal range, so the fruit ripens fully while keeping acidity and colour, and the old vines yield small, concentrated crops. The wine is aged for thirteen months in used French oak, where the older wood allows slow oxygen exchange and structure to build without heavy new-oak flavour. The colour is deep, dark cherry. The nose melds red and black fruit with spice and a balsamic, savoury edge. The palate is full bodied and structured, with firm, ripe tannin, fresh acidity and a long finish of liquorice and gentle oak spice. Serve at 17 to 18 degrees, decanting an hour ahead. It suits grilled and roasted red meat.
