Description
Quinta Milú is a small Ribera del Duero project run by German R. Blanco in La Aguilera, Burgos, built on a philosophy of minimal intervention and a faithful reading of the landscape and the vintage. This is the entry wine, made from the youngest Tempranillo vines on the estate. Ribera del Duero lies on a high Castilian plateau where vineyards sit above 800 metres and the wide gap between warm days and cold nights keeps acidity and aromatic freshness high, while the poor limestone and sandy soils restrain yields. The aim here is freshness and transparency, so after fermentation the wine spends just six months in used French oak, old enough that it imparts no obvious wood character, instead allowing a gentle oxygen exchange to round the tannin while the fruit stays clean and primary. The colour is bright and youthful. The nose is fresh and fruity, with cherry, raspberry and red currant over a subtle earthy, peppery note. The palate is light, supple and easy to drink, the tannin soft and the finish bright. Serve at 14 to 16 degrees, lightly chilled. It pairs with roast poultry, pork and lighter game.
