Quinta do Sil is a Valdeorras Godello from Granbazán, the Rías Baixas house founded in 1981. Aged on its lees under sustainable farming, it is a bright, balanced white of ripe apple, stone fruit and melon with a clean citrus finish.
Description
Quinta do Sil is a Godello from the Galician appellation Valdeorras, made by Granbazán, the well known Rías Baixas producer founded in 1981 in the Salnés Valley. The grape is Godello, a native Galician white grown here on the slate and granite soils of inland Valdeorras, in a climate warmer than the coast but still fresh enough to keep good acidity. Godello ripens to riper orchard and stone fruit than the more citrus driven Albariño, which gives the wine its balanced, medium bodied character. Farming follows a respectful, sustainable approach. The wine is aged on its lees, the fine yeast sediment from fermentation, which is kept in contact with the wine to build a rounder mouthfeel and savoury depth while preserving freshness, with no oak flavour. The colour is a bright, translucent yellow. The nose is generous, with ripe apple, white peach, melon and a floral lift. The palate is dry and balanced, with ripe fruit softened by the lees and a clean, fresh citrus finish. Serve at 10 to 11 degrees. It is a good all round white for the table.
