Puro Rofe Blanco is a Lanzarote white grown on black volcanic soil, blending the native Listán Blanco, Malvasía and Vijariego Blanco. Made with minimal intervention and aged on the lees, it is a saline, smoky white with citrus, green apple and white peach.
Description
Puro Rofe was founded on the volcanic island of Lanzarote by Rayco Fernández and winemaker Carmelo Peña, working with growers to revive local varieties through minimal intervention. This white comes from the D.O. Lanzarote and blends three native grapes, Listán Blanco, Malvasía and Vijariego Blanco. The vines grow in the island's distinctive volcanic rofe, a layer of dark lapilli and ash that gives the wine its name, planted in hollows and shelter walls to protect them from the wind and trap moisture. The mineral, free-draining volcanic soil and the strong Atlantic influence produce grapes with fresh acidity, a smoky mineral character and a marked salinity. Ageing on the fine lees adds texture and a subtle creaminess while the low-intervention approach keeps the wine transparent and true to place. The colour is pale with green tints. The nose leads with lemon and green apple over white peach, white flowers and a distinct smoky, flinty edge that reflects the volcanic ground. The palate is dry, saline and precise, with citrus peel and a long mineral finish. Serve at 9 to 11 degrees. It is a natural partner for fresh fish, shellfish and grilled vegetables.
