Description
Purasangre, meaning thoroughbred, is made by master distiller Enrique Fonseca at his La Tequilena distillery, NOM 1146 in Atotonilco el Alto, the same Los Altos house that turns out ArteNOM, Fuenteseca, Don Fulano and Tears of Llorona. The racehorse on the label nods to that thoroughbred name. This is the reposado, a rested tequila that shows pale amber tones from its time in oak while keeping the agave core present.
Fonseca is one of Jalisco's largest agave growers, and the highland fruit shows in a rounded, fruit leaning profile. The nose runs to cooked agave with nutty and oak notes, melon, cinnamon, caramel and vanilla, while the palate is soft and supple, agave and wood gliding into a gentle finish touched with cinnamon, butter and mint. Bottled at 40%, it is an elegant, structured rested tequila from a respected producer.
