Prieto Pariente La Provincia is a Castilla y León red blending old-vine Tempranillo with Garnacha from vineyards around Valladolid. Ten months in oak gives a deep cherry red with ripe cherry, blackberry, pepper and a fresh, savoury structure.
Description
Prieto Pariente La Provincia is made by Bodegas Prieto Pariente in Valladolid, as a Castilla y León regional wine designed to show the range of the province. It blends Tempranillo with Garnacha, the Tempranillo from old vines in Valbuena de Duero, Mucientes and Pedrosa del Rey, where Garnacha is also grown. The plots hold a mix of sand, limestone, clay and loam, soils that drain well and lend the wine freshness and detail. The continental climate, with hot days and cold nights, slows ripening and preserves acidity and aromatics, while the old vines crop little and concentrate the fruit. Ageing is ten months in oak, where slow oxygen exchange softens the tannins and adds spice and a fine toast, and malolactic fermentation rounds the acidity. The wine is deep cherry red with a violet rim. The nose is ripe cherry and blackberry with black pepper, liquorice, vanilla and an earthy note. The palate is medium to full bodied, fruity and fresh, with fine-grained tannin, lively acidity and a savoury, persistent finish. Serve at 16 to 17 degrees. It suits grilled and roast red meat and mushroom dishes.
