A sweetened 13 year old Panamanian rum bottled by the independent Oldman Spirits and aged in ex-bourbon, soft and light with apple, cherry and dried fruit over a raisin-and-anise finish, dessert-leaning at 43%.
Description
This Panamanian rum was bottled by the independent firm Oldman Spirits at 13 years old, aged in ex-bourbon oak. It is a Spanish-style ron built on a light molasses spirit, and this release is sweetened, so it reads as a soft, rounded pour rather than a dry aged ron in the purist mould.
The ex-bourbon ageing and added sugar combine for a gentle, fruit-led character with a light body. The nose is soft and woody with apple and cherry, the palate stays light and sweet over wood and dried fruit, and the finish brings cherry, raisin and a touch of anise. It is approachable and mellow in the familiar Panamanian manner, with the sweetness smoothing rather than dominating, though it sits squarely on the dessert-leaning side. At 43% it is easygoing and undemanding, a sweetened aged Panama rum for relaxed, after-dinner sipping.
