A fifteen year TDL single cask from Precious Liquors, fresh and minty with citrus, honey and vanilla over roasted wood and light smoke, characterful cask strength without the heat at 57.1%.
Description
This is a 2010 vintage TDL bottled by Precious Liquors as the Lucky Coin, a fifteen year single cask. TDL is the column-still arm of the Angostura group in Trinidad, working from island molasses in a lighter, fragrant idiom. An aged single cask at this strength shows the more layered side of the living distillery, suited to drinkers who want a characterful Trinidad without aggressive heat.
Matured in ex-bourbon oak, it balances freshness against oak. The aroma is minty and citrus-led with woody fruit, the palate brings mint, honey, citrus and vanilla with an almost pastry-like sweetness, and the finish turns roasted and woody with chocolate and yellow fruit. There is a fresh, elegant lift running through it, the menthol and citrus kept in balance with toasted wood and a touch of smoke. The alcohol is well integrated, making it a composed and characterful cask strength pour at 57.1% that rewards a little time in the glass.
