A 22 year old Hampden under the LROK mark, bottled by Precious Liquors for the Auld Alliance at an approachable 48.6%, all overripe pineapple and banana with light caramel and a soft, dry, buttery finish.
Description
Hampden in Trelawny is the reference point for Jamaican ester funk, and LROK is one of its medium marks, fruity and characterful without reaching the extremes of DOK. This Precious Liquors release, bottled for the Auld Alliance, takes a single cask of the 2000 vintage to 22 years.
Distilled on Hampden's double-retort pot stills from molasses and matured in ex-bourbon wood, it carries the house signature of pineapple, overripe tropical fruit and banana, with an ester lift that stays bright rather than solventy. Age and a gentle 48.6% strength have smoothed the edges, giving a buttery, caramelised palate and a dry, warm close laced with pineapple and spice. It is unsweetened and very drinkable, an aged Hampden that keeps the distillery's fruit identity while staying easy on the palate, ideal for anyone who likes the mark but wants it softer than cask strength.
