A 10-year Hampden <>H single cask at 58.8%, funky pot still given a rounded, roasty edge, with grilled pineapple, overripe banana and glue esters over toasted nuts, cask strength yet balanced.
Description
House of Cane is a single cask from Precious Liquors, drawn from Hampden's H marque, distilled in 2013 and bottled at ten years old at cask strength. Hampden is the reference point for high-ester Jamaican funk, and the H mark is a classic, well-loved profile in that range; ten years of ageing rounds it into something balanced rather than raw.
Distilled on the double-retort pot stills from molasses and matured in ex-bourbon oak across a tropical and continental span, the wood adds roast and structure without burying the esters. The nose gives pineapple, tropical fruit, glue and funk; the palate carries ester, grilled pineapple, overripe banana and tropical fruit with roasted nuts, closing spicy with mango, ester and fruit. Bottled unsweetened at 58.8%, it stays cask-strength in power yet drinks notably rounded and integrated. A characterful funky Jamaican for experienced palates who enjoy Hampden's H releases and want the dialled-up, roastier side of that profile.
