Description
Porta Leone makes this Prosecco DOC in the Treviso zone from 100 percent Glera, the grapes picked in September from vineyards on medium heavy soils at around 40 metres. After gentle pressing and static must clarification, the wine ferments at a controlled temperature, and the second fermentation runs by the Charmat method in pressurised tanks with selected yeasts. That tank approach, kept off oak, gives the fine, persistent bead while preserving Glera's fresh, floral fruit. With residual sugar around 15 grams per litre, the extra dry style is fruity and balanced, easy to place across the table.
The colour is pale straw with green tints and a fine, persistent perlage. The nose shows golden apple, Williams pear and white flowers with a hint of acacia honey and a touch of citrus peel over stone fruit. The palate is fresh and lively, a gentle fruity sweetness and creamy mousse balanced by clean acidity, closing juicy and lemony. Serve well chilled at 6 to 8 degrees in a white wine glass. It makes a stylish aperitif and suits light starters, white fish and shellfish.
