Ponte da Boga Godello comes from two estates in D.O. Ribeira Sacra, worked on the region’s steep terraces. Barrel fermented then rested five months in stainless steel, it shows white peach, pear and citrus with a fresh, saline finish.
Description
Ponte da Boga Godello is a Galician white made from the native Godello variety in D.O. Ribeira Sacra, produced by the Ponte da Boga winery in the Terra de Caldelas. The Ribeira Sacra is defined by dramatic slopes above the river gorges, where the terraces are too steep for machinery and the work is done by hand, what growers call heroic viticulture. The fruit comes from two estates in the appellation, grown on slate and granite soils that drain quickly and reflect warmth back onto the vines, while the river-moderated climate preserves acidity. The wine is barrel fermented and then rests for five months in stainless steel tanks, a method that gives the wine a little breadth from the ferment while the inert steel keeps the fruit fresh and the profile precise. Left on its fine lees, it gains a subtle roundness without picking up oak character. The colour is pale straw with green tints. The nose shows white peach, pear, melon and citrus over white flowers. The palate is balanced and mineral, with ripe orchard and stone fruit carried by bright acidity to a clean, saline finish. Serve at 9 to 11 degrees. It suits white fish, shellfish and roast poultry.
