Ponte da Boga makes this single varietal Albariño in Ribeira Sacra, on slate terraces above 500 metres over the Sil canyon. Fermented in steel and aged five months on lees, it shows lime, ripe apple and white peach over a stony minerality.
Description
Ponte da Boga makes this single varietal Albariño in D.O. Ribeira Sacra, a steep inland Galician region shaped by the Sil river and its deep canyon. The vineyards sit on slate soils at over 500 metres, high enough that cool nights hold the grape's acidity and give the wine a firm backbone. The winery works terraces cut into the canyon walls, a demanding site that rewards the effort with real definition in the fruit. Fermentation is in stainless steel, which keeps the flavours clean and precise, and the wine then ages on its lees for five months in tank, the spent yeast adding a rounder texture and a little more depth without oak. It is pale in the glass, with lime, ripe apple, white peach and a floral note over a stony minerality that reflects the slate. The palate is fresh and direct, the citrus and orchard fruit carried by crisp acidity to a clean, mineral finish. Serve it at 8 to 10 degrees. It suits shellfish, white fish, goat cheese and green salads.
