Pōkeno Origin

Pōkeno Origin is a core range New Zealand single malt made in Pōkeno in the Waikato region of the North Island, known for its wide farmland and river landscapes. Bottled at 43% ABV, it’s now widely available across New Zealand, the UK and Europe, and it sets out the distillery’s house style in its most direct form.

Matured entirely in first fill Bourbon casks, Origin is designed to stay distillate forward while still building early structure and sweetness from fresh American oak. The cask influence lands as clean vanilla, honeyed caramel, and coconut leaning oak lactones rather than heavy char or wine driven weight, which keeps the profile bright and precise. That choice also fits the reality of a newer distillery: younger spirit can be given roundness and cohesion quickly without being pushed into a cask dominated style.

In the glass it drinks smooth and fruit led, with a clear citrus lift and ripe orchard fruit character sitting ahead of the oak. The palate moves through honey, toffee and light chocolate sweetness, finishing with fresh vanilla, soft spice and a slightly youthful, bright edge that keeps it lively rather than heavy.
