Poisson Père Labat XO 6 Ans

Pere Labat is the rum of the Poisson distillery on Marie Galante, a small and reputed house, and this XO 6 Ans shows its aged side. Made from fresh pressed sugar cane juice in the agricole tradition and matured six years in ex bourbon, it is bottled at a soft 42% that suits its rounded, easygoing character.

Six years in oak have smoothed the spirit into something supple. The nose is round, fresh and fruity with a slightly overripe edge, a little smoke and a faint anise note, and the palate turns oily and rounded with discreet wood and a vegetal backbone. The finish stays balanced and woody with anise and caramel, and a hint of cachaca like rawness peeks through. It is a gentle, well integrated island vieux for drinkers who enjoy aged cane juice rum with body and a relaxed strength.
