A single-cask Pere Labat from Marie-Galante, fresh cane juice aged eight years into anise, oak and mint with a floral, balanced palate and a warm, spicy, fruity finish at 45%.
Description
Poisson distils Pere Labat on Marie-Galante, a small-batch agricole house with a strong reputation, working from fresh-pressed sugar-cane juice. This single cask from 2010 was aged eight years and carries the Guadeloupe IGP rather than the Martinique AOC.
Eight tropical years in ex-bourbon oak have produced an elegant, fruity rum, with woody, minty, floral and anise notes on the nose, then oak, anise and a balanced, floral palate. The finish is warm and spicy with roasted, fruity tones. Bottled at 45% and presented as a single barrel, it is a refined, slightly restrained aged agricole, the kind of bottle drinkers keep for slow sipping, where the freshness of the cane still threads through the maturity of the wood.
