Description
This Pere Labat XO comes from the Poisson distillery on Marie Galante, a 1997 vintage drawn from a single ex-Bourbon cask and aged eighteen years, a long maturity for French-island rum. Pere Labat is a small, reputed producer working in the agricole tradition with fresh pressed sugar cane juice.
Eighteen years carries an agricole well into its mature register, layering soft wood, herbs, citrus and dried fruit over the grassy cane core, the kind of depth a long ex-Bourbon ageing tends to bring. As a single cask from an older vintage, this is a collector leaning bottle rather than an everyday pour, a chance to taste Marie Galante cane juice with real age behind it.
