A white agricole from Poisson under the Pere Labat name on Marie-Galante, distilled on a creole column from fresh cane juice and bottled at a local-style 50%, intense and dry with grapefruit, citrus and a nutty, fresh sugarcane finish.
Description
Pere Labat is a small, well-regarded Marie-Galante distillery, and this Rhum Blanc Agricole is a classic island white bottled at the high strength the region favours. Made under Guadeloupe's IGP from fresh-pressed sugar-cane juice, it is cane-juice rum showing terroir without any cask.
Distilled on a creole column still, the configuration that keeps grassy and vegetal congeners in the spirit, it is intense and benefits from a rest in the glass before the flavours settle. The nose is fresh and nutty with citrus and grapefruit, while the palate balances a touch of natural sweetness against sugarcane, citrus and a dry frame. The finish stays dry and warm with citrus and fruit. At 50% it has the herbal vibrancy and firm cane snap that wins people over to white agricole, a vivid, dry blanc that is excellent in a Ti' Punch and rewarding neat for those who like freshness with backbone.
