Description
Poisson, the house behind Pere Labat, is a small and well-regarded Marie Galante distillery, and this Brut de fut is a 2019 vieux bottled at cask strength, 53.7%. Distilled from fresh-pressed sugar cane juice with no added sugar, it carries four years of age in the VSOP tier.
Matured in ex-bourbon oak, it keeps a cane-juice freshness underneath while the wood brings dried fruit forward: raisins, prunes and a darker, jammy character with vanilla and allspice. The palate is dynamic, moving from oak and dried fruit to a finish of chocolate and warm spice. At cask strength it has body and grip without turning aggressive, a balanced and fairly priced aged agricole that rewards neat sipping.
