A very old Marie-Galante agricole from Poisson under the Pere Labat name, around seventeen years in ex-bourbon oak, dry and woody with vanilla, prunes, tobacco and citrus over a clear cane base, a contemplative sipper at 43%.
Description
Pere Labat is the small, well-regarded agricole brand from the Poisson distillery on Marie-Galante, and this Ambassadeur is a Tres Vieux Rhum, an old cane-juice rum of around seventeen years matured in ex-bourbon oak under the Guadeloupe IGP. It represents the serious, aged end of a house better known for its classic high-proof blanc.
The years show clearly: the nose is dry, woody and distinctly mature, with vanilla, prunes and citrus, and the palate carries that age into wood, vanilla, dried prune and tobacco. The finish stays fresh and woody with citrus and a faintly oily texture, the Guadeloupe cane still legible beneath the oak. Bottled dry at 43%, it is unmistakably an old agricole, leaning toward dryness and wood rather than fruit, a quiet, contemplative pour for those who appreciate well-aged French-island rum where time and cane are allowed to speak plainly.
