Description
Podere Sanguineto is a family-run Tuscan estate in the hills of Montepulciano, farming since the late 1950s with a focus on the land and tradition. This Rosso Toscano is its fresher, more immediate wine, made from Sangiovese and farmed organically. It captures the grape in an approachable register rather than the firmer Vino Nobile style. The Montepulciano hills give Sangiovese its natural high acidity and fine, savoury tannin, the sand and clay soils and good ventilation keeping the fruit bright and the wine light on its feet. After fermentation the wine is aged in wood, where the time in cask softens the tannins and adds a light cedar and savoury frame while preserving the fresh fruit and floral character. The colour is a bright ruby. The nose shows fresh cherry and red berries with wildflowers and sweet lilac, cedar and a hint of leather and suede. The palate is medium bodied, with crisp acidity, fine tannins and a clean, savoury finish. Serve at 16 degrees. It suits grilled red meat, lamb and tomato-based dishes.
