Description
Podere Le Boncie is a three-hectare family estate at San Felice, on the southern edge of the Chianti Classico zone in Tuscany, worked organically by Giovanna Morganti. Le Trame is her flagship, made mostly from Sangiovese with a little of the traditional Tuscan varieties grown alongside it. The vineyard sits on stony clay and limestone soils with galestro, poor and free-draining, which limits vigour and gives Sangiovese firm acidity and fine tannin. The hillside altitude and the swing between warm days and cool nights slow ripening and keep the perfume and freshness that mark the wine. It ferments with native yeasts and ages in barrel, where gentle oxygen exchange softens the tannin and adds savoury depth while keeping the fruit and site to the fore. The colour is a translucent garnet. The nose shows sour cherry and red currant over dried rose, earth and herbs, with leather and tobacco from ageing. The palate is medium bodied and elegant, with high acidity, fine chalky tannin and a long, earthy, savoury finish. Serve at 16 to 17 degrees and decant briefly. It suits roast and braised meats and mushroom dishes.
