Description
Podere Le Boncie is a small organic estate of about four hectares in Castelnuovo Berardenga, one of the communes of Chianti Classico, run by Giovanna Morganti since the 1980s and a reference point for natural growers in the zone. The wine 5 is a field blend led by Sangiovese with Ciliegiolo, Colorino, Foglia Tonda and Mammolo, the older Tuscan varieties planted together. The vineyards sit on the classic Chianti mix of clay and limestone with galestro, poor soils that drain well and give Sangiovese its acidity and fine tannin, while the hillside site and warm days with cool nights keep the fruit fresh and perfumed. The wine ages around eight months in large old foudres, which lets it settle and soften with slow oxygen exchange but adds no oak flavour, so the blend and the site stay clear. The colour is a bright medium garnet. The nose shows sour cherry and wild red berries over dried rose, herbs and earth. The palate is medium bodied and savoury, with high acidity, fine dusty tannin, a peppery edge and an earthy, lightly leathery finish. Serve at 16 to 17 degrees. It suits roast meats and tomato-based dishes.
