Description
Podere Giodo is the personal Montalcino project of Carlo Ferrini, a leading Italian oenologist known for his work with Sangiovese and his focus on soil, rootstocks and clone selection. This Brunello di Montalcino comes from the 2018 vintage and is made entirely from Sangiovese. Montalcino sits in the warm, dry south of Tuscany, with poor galestro and clay soils that stress the vines and concentrate the fruit, while good day to night temperature swings preserve acidity and aroma. Under the appellation the wine is aged for an extended period in oak, where slow oxygen exchange through the barrel softens Sangiovese's firm tannin and adds savoury depth. The colour is deep garnet. The nose shows dark cherry and plum, with tobacco, dried herbs and a leathery, earthy note from bottle age. The palate is full and structured, with ripe dark fruit, firm tannin and bright acidity carrying a long finish. At 14 percent it is powerful but balanced, and will age further. Serve at 18 degrees with a decant. It suits red meat, lamb and mature cheese.
