Planteray (Coffee Liquer Cask) 2019

Planteray (Coffee Liqueur Cask) 2019 is a 5 year Fijian rum from Maison Ferrand's reworked Planteray range, a single cask drawn from a 2019 vintage, finished in coffee liqueur casks and bottled unsweetened at 45.4%. It is one of the house's cask experiments, pairing Fiji's distinctive distillate with an unusual finish for a dessert-leaning but spirit-driven result.

After initial ageing in ex-bourbon oak, the coffee-liqueur finish adds caramel, vanilla, cocoa and a gentle coffee bitterness that runs from nose through to an espresso-tinged finish, without ever turning sticky or overwhelming. While Maison Ferrand's mainstream Plantation bottlings openly use dosage, this single cask is certified unsweetened, so the coffee character reads as cask influence rather than added sweetness. The coffee is a little subtler than the cask name suggests, leaving room for real Fiji fruit and cocoa underneath, a balanced dessert sipper for the coffee-curious.
